Jamestown CrossFit and Virginia Beer Company teamed up in July to host a unique workout that benefited Child Development Resources (CDR).
Forty people turned out on July 9 for the inaugural Barbells and Beer event at Virginia Beer Company, where CrossFit enthusiasts from Jamestown CrossFit as well as novices from throughout the community participated in an hour-long workout that ended with a glass of beer. Roughly $200 was raised for CDR from the workout ticket sales. In addition, Virginia Beer Company donated a percentage of the sales of their beer Saving Daylight to the cause.
The event “was a great way to combine what we are passionate about—fitness—with another local business and a local charitable organization,” says Monica Marlowe, general manager and head coach for Jamestown CrossFit. “Barbells & Beer provided an opportunity for the community, CrossFitters and non-CrossFitters, to be active in a different environment than a gym or fitness center, while supporting CDR, an organization that is near and dear to our staff, particularly Britta and David Marmon [owners of Jamestown CrossFit]. I was extremely pleased with the turnout.”
Another event is tentatively planned for this fall. All fitness levels are welcome.
