‘Studies in Light and Dark’ Solo Show by Holland Wentz Etheridge

On the Hill Gallery 402 Main Street, Yorktown, Virginia 23690
On The Hill Gallery presents a solo show by award-winning Hampton Roads artist Holland Wentz Etheridge March 31-April 29 in its back gallery.
Her show collection, titled “Studies in Light and Dark,” includes subjects close to home and far away. “I’m captivated by the things I see in my environment and in my travels to Europe. You’ll see expressed in watercolor and pencil my views of nature, landscapes, flowers and some people – I love nature,” she says.
The commonalities are the strong contrasts and the details. “It’s been suggested that I have more patience than sense, because my work is very finely detailed,” she says. “It’s beyond photographic. Up close, it’s abstraction.”
Wentz Etheridge has taught watercolor at Charles Taylor Visual Art Center in Hampton since 2016.
Among her many awards are “Best Body of Work” at the 2018 Gloucester Arts Festival, “Best in Show” at the 2016 Peninsula Fine Arts Center Biennial Juried Show, and the 2014 and 2016 Virginia Watercolor Society Exhibitions. Other accolades include Awards of Excellence from the Virginia Watercolor Society and First Places and Awards of Merit from The Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center.
The public is invited to a reception celebrating the opening of “Studies in Light and Dark,” 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 31. Admission is free.
