Sharing her discoveries from previously unexamined documents, historian and author Martha W. McCartney of Williamsburg will present her ground-breaking new research from the United Kingdom's National Archives on the circumstances surrounding the 1619 arrival of the colony's first Africans. The research was conducted in collaboration with the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. Ms. McCartney has studied the people of Virginia for almost 50 years and is the author of 12 books and more than 200 published articles. The event is sponsored by Mathews County Historical Society.
