Verdi’s La Traviata is the most popular opera in the world, in any language. It tells the story of a high-society woman who leaves her freewheeling lifestyle to dedicate herself to her one love – only to be persuaded by his father to part from her beloved for his own good. The two eventually reunite with the father’s blessing, but too late to save Violetta from dying in her lover’s arms. The music is heartbreakingly beautiful and brings the story to life.
