Leedstown Resolves 250th Anniversary Commemoration at Stratford Hall
to
Stratford Hall 483 Great House Rd., Stratford, Virginia 22558
Join us for the 250th anniversary commemoration of the Leedstown Resolves. This event is free to the public. On February 27, 1766, one hundred and fifteen Northern Neck patriots assembled in Leedstown, Virginia, to support a proposal written by Richard Henry Lee in protest of the British crown’s imposition of the Stamp Act – an act of “taxation without representation.”
This event will feature Virginia dignitaries as guest speakers, “histories of the lives of the signers” by descendants of the original signers, living history interpreters portraying Richard Henry Lee (author of the Leedstown Resolves) and signers John Belfield of Belle Mount and John Augustine Washington of Bushfield, music by Yorktown Fife & Drum Corps, and a wreath ceremony by local Northern Neck SAR & DAR chapters.
Immediately following the program, join Richard Henry Lee, John Belfield of Belle Mount, and John Augustine Washington of Bushfield for a buffet luncheon in Stratford Hall’s Dining Room. Lunch reservations are required by February 25, 2016, and can be made by calling Lesley Brooks at 804-493-1966 or at lbrooks@stratfordhall.org. The lunch buffet includes ham biscuits, fried chicken, baked ham, cornbread, butter beans, sweet potatoes, kale, coleslaw, green salad and dessert. The price is $15.95, plus tax and gratuity.
