The Northern Neck Kennel Club will offer a program entitled "Meet the Breed." Bring your own dog. You'll be able to take the microphone and tell the crowd about its breed (or lack thereof) ! This program was postponed from last month.
Sponsored by Rice's Hotel / Hughlett's Tavern in Heathsville, the Heathsville Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Shoppers will find farm-fresh local produce, meat and eggs, bread and baked goods, oysters, peanuts, flowers and nursery plants, jams and jellies, and high quality handcrafts. There are new vendors every month.
There will also be a special display of flags on the grounds in honor of Flag Day.
Inside the Tavern itself is the "Heritage Arts Center" Gift Shoppe, which sells the wares of over 75 local artisans, and the Tavern Cafe´, which offers light luncheon fare. Special in the café on Farmers Market day is glazed donuts, hot out of the fryer. For "on-the-go" eating, visit the food concession stand in front of the "Transportation Museum Building".
A historic landmark in the Northern Neck since the 1700's, Rice's Hotel / Hughlett's Tavern is the home to four artisan guilds, the Blacksmiths, Quilters, Woodworkers, and Spinners & Weavers. The volunteer members of the Culinary Guild do the cooking at the Tavern Cafe´. All guilds will have special demonstrations taking place during this Farmers Market.
