Garden Perspectives Art Show

On the Hill Gallery 402 Main Street, Yorktown, Virginia 23690
Without the usual fanfare, but with plenty of community participation, On the Hill Gallery has opened its “Garden Perspectives” show with the help of sponsor Ken Matthews Landscaping. “This show wouldn’t have been possible without them and they were the perfect sponsor for a theme like this,” said Lisa Trichel-Beavers, president of the gallery board.
Yorktown Arts Foundation board members decided to go forward with the art show despite the fact that the usual reception and awards ceremony would not be possible, due to COVID restrictions and precautions. Instead, the team of volunteers decided to create an outreach to the broader community by inviting non-member artists to participate in the show. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with 34 different artists, from multiple disciplines, submitting work. Funds raised from the show contribute to further community outreach, providing art education to community youth.
“Last year was a season when so many people felt trapped in some way. This show’s focus is designed to combat that. Each piece is a meditation on the beauty surrounding us,” explained Trichel-Beavers.
Works in the show were judged by fine artist, June Skalak, who has more than 20 years of fine art painting, as well as art education and graphic design to her credit. Awards were generously provided by Ken Matthews Landscaping.
All work in the show, including winning pieces, is for sale.
