Free Day at Stratford Hall to Welcome Home Mr. Pitt!
to
Stratford Hall 483 Great House Rd., Stratford, Virginia 22558
On Friday, August 5th we will be having a free admission community day in honor of the unveiling of the reproduction William Pitt portrait. About 250 years ago the citizens of Westmoreland County commissioned a portrait of William Pitt. William Pitt was a staunch support of colonial rights and called for a repeal of the 1765 Stamp Act in a provocative speech to Parliament in 1766.
The Pitt portrait hung in the Parlor of the Great House from 1794 to 1821 before being returned to the Westmoreland County Courthouse. The original portrait is currently on display at the Westmoreland CountyMuseum in downtown Montross, Virginia.
The Great House will be open to visitors from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Make sure to visit the toga station where you can dress up and have fun taking photos like Mr. Pitt! Use the hashtag #PoselikePitt to share your photos!
Afterwards head to downtown Montross to take part in their First Friday Art Walk, Market Day & Music Series! The market opens at noon with a wonderful selection of local produce, arts & crafts, food vendors, and much more. Enjoy wine and live music from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.!
