Fall Migration Birding with Andrew Dolby
to
Stratford Hall 483 Great House Rd., Stratford, Virginia 22558
One of the great athletic performances in all of nature is the regular mass movement of birds from one continent to another, often across great expanses of water and inhospitable deserts.
This presentation will delve into the physiological, ecological, and behavioral mechanisms that make such an impressive feat possible. Incredible advances in modern technology have allowed the study of bird migration to become more detailed than ever, and this talk will explain some of these new tools. Finally, intercontinental travel poses unique hazards, and thus, special challenges must be overcome to conserve migratory species.
Dr. Dolby will give a presentation on bird migration, followed by a bird walk around the Stratford property. Bring your binoculars and wear comfortable shoes.
The cost of the program is $15.00 per person; the program is free to Friends of Stratford cardholders. Please email Jon Bachman or call him at 804-493-1972 to register; the deadline for registration is September 21, 2016. A minimum of 20 registrants is needed, with a maximum number of 40 attendees.
