Artifact Washing at Mathews County Historical Museum
to
Mathews Museum & Mathews Maritime Museum 482 Main St., Mathews, Virginia 23109
Mathews families are invited to join staff and volunteers from the Fairfield Foundation on Saturday, March 12, and Friday, March 25, from 2-4 pm at the Mathews County Historical Museum on Main Street to wash artifacts and learn about local archaeology. The artifact wash days are funded by the Mathews Community Foundation to support women and families in activities that support cultural vibrancy in the county. Fairfield visits schools and conducts archaeological work yearround, inviting folks of all ages to learn more about the county’s long history: from Virginia’s first people, to early settlers in colonial Gloucester’s Kingston Parish, to early American families with long legacies as watermen, farmers, shipbuilders, and merchants. Register for hands-on learning with your family by emailing fairfield@fairfieldfoundation.org and indicate which day(s) you would like to attend and how many people will attend and their ages. Space in the Museum’s multipurpose room is limited, so sign up soon! Remember to mask up for safety!
