Not every client knows exactly what they want when they contact Prestige Cabinets.
To owner Doug Hogue, the best way to assist clients who aren’t entirely sure what they want is to help them understand what they don’t want. “Once we know that, we can narrow it down to the kind of things that they are attracted to and hone in on those details,” he says.
When a Lancaster County client contacted Prestige Cabinets, it was about the renovation of her kitchen, a project that would include wall removal work to open up the kitchen to the living room, wet bar, laundry room and primary bedroom suite areas. The project became a collaborative effort between Hogue and the homeowner. “She was very good about knowing what she wanted and what she didn’t,” Hogue says. “She also had great taste, so all of that combined to make my job a little easier.”
Hogue made suggestions throughout the process, as is his standard practice. He says that most of the time, clients will defer to his experience in the industry. “And in the end,” he says, “they’re very appreciative of that guidance and my willingness to think outside the box.”
Working in Lancaster County was new for Toano-based Prestige Cabinets then, but has become more commonplace for the company. After completing the project, Hogue’s team realized how much they’d enjoyed the Northern Neck area and, as a result, have taken on additional projects there. “The distance just helps keep us on our toes, working efficiently with scheduling and execution of the work,” says Hogue. “That in turn helps us on the more local projects, too, by keeping the bar high.”
In many ways, the project encapsulated the high-end product and services Prestige Cabinets offers. What mattered to the client was the quality of the product, attention to details and superior service. “We worked together on the plan and execution, we answered our phones, took their questions and guided them through the entire process from the initial consultation to the final punch out work,” Hogue says. “And we’ll continue to provide any service they might need in the future as they use these new spaces.”
Ending a long, highly detailed project while maintaining a great relationship with the client is the most satisfying part for Hogue. “That’s what all of this boils down to for me, relationships.”
