Four Hours that Flew By: A Review of Waypoint Seafood & Grill
Many people in Williamsburg, especially those who live near Kingsmill or near that part of town, know Waypoint. Chef Hans Schadler is well known from the Williamsburg Inn, and I’ve judged wine competitions side by side with him in the past. I’ve been to the restaurant before, but this time I went to do a proper review, accompanied by my friend Scott Marquez.
The restaurant has easy reservation making options. You can make reservations through Open Table, or simply call for reservations during business hours. The entrance is very welcoming and a friendly hostess took us to our table where within a minute we met our waitress, Maria. She gave us good suggestions in choosing our food. The food menus are backlit and easily readable.
For starters my guest had the roasted tomato jalapeño bisque with crab meat that was delicious and creamy with hints of jalapeño. I enjoyed the lobster cappuccino that was also delicious topped with a foamy crème fraiche.
I ordered our first wine, a 2014 Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon, that also arrived promptly. I had the beet salad that was indeed very tasty combining the sweetness of the beets with the fresh lightly spicy flavor of the greens.
For his main course my guest ordered the shell fish and grits that consisted of shrimp, lobster and scallops. There was one lobster claw, half a tail, one scallop that appeared to be butterflied and four shrimp. The dish was perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented.
I ordered the Angus filet which was cooked to perfection and complimented by a tasty reduction. As the food was very delicious we had to order another bottle of wine. Luckily we found the last bottle of 2014 Peju Cabernet Sauvignon that was also a very nice dessert wine. We skipped dessert and were almost the last table in the restaurant.
Our dining experience took about four hours that seemed as quick as 30 minutes. Waypoint is a great restaurant for special occasions or to meet with good friends.The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, service on the spot and food delicious.Certainly a bit pricey but one will walkout fulfilled and happy, which is a great thing to invest in.
