The HazyShade Trio (left to right: Doug Austin, John Dacey, Kirsten Hazler)
Blending acoustic folk instrumentation and earthy vocals with a casual disregard for genre boundaries, the HazyShade Trio serves up an unconventional mix of original music and offbeat covers. Ranging from raucous folk-punk to light-hearted acoustic pop, and from sassy alt-country to sultry swing, influences include Joni Mitchell, Eliza Gilkyson, Railroad Earth, and Poor Man's Poison.
Formerly known as the Haze & Dacey Trio, the ensemble evolved from the long-running indie-folk duo Haze & Dacey. The addition of multi-instrumentalist Doug Austin in 2018 expanded the duo's rootsy acoustic vibe with dynamic, bluegrass-inflected solos and occasional three-part vocals. Audiences can expect tight male-female harmonies, tastefully virtuosic instrumental leads, and a creative setlist including songs inspired by "The Handmaid's Tale". This concert marks the trio's debut performance at Flat Iron Crossroads.
