An Evening with Cali Adeline, discussing People Watching in the Desert
Sonny, the sharp-eyed protagonist of Cali Adeline’s debut novel, has always preferred to watch life from the sidelines — scribbling observations in her notebook, spinning strangers into stories, keeping the real world safely at arm’s length. But when she finds herself at a luxury Arizona resort, the gap between her fictional versions of people and who they actually are starts to close in uncomfortable, revelatory ways. Funny, warm, and quietly devastating, People Watching in the Desert is the kind of debut that makes you feel instantly seen.
