Our local farmer’s markets are brimming with local produce, work by local artisans, locally raised eggs and meat, baked goods, canned goods, plants and so much more. Chances are, you’ll run into someone you know, or you’ll meet someone new. You may even meet a new family member—adoptable shelter dogs often make a guest appearance, or you may learn about local nonprofits and ways to volunteer.
Many of the markets have a special theme, so be sure to check out their schedules. The July Heathsville Farmers Market is “Kids Day,” with lots of activities for kids, including making a wooden boat with the Tavern Woodworkers Guild. In Mathews, Markets on Main features the Saturday Farmers Market, vendors and retailers along Main Street, an Artisan Market and special events at the Bay School Community Arts Center, along with live music and entertainment. If you time your visit to the Warsaw Farmers Market in the evening, you can stick around for the Fourth Friday Concert Series held from 6-9 p.m. Yorktown has special themed markets from a Sister Cities French Market to a Maritime Festival. Have plant questions? The Northern Neck Master Gardeners are often at the Irvington Farmers Market, along with live music, local seafood and more. Visit the large array at the Williamsburg Farmers Market and learn about the amazing Power of Produce (POP) Club.
