Say what you will about the COVID pandemic, but one good thing that came out of it was the uptick in independent bookstores.
An average of 300 new indie bookstores open annually, often by people not willing to live anywhere without a bookstore. All of them know that the components of a successful indie bookstore are threefold: a curated inventory, support for the community and hosting events that resonate with their audience. How each bookstore accomplishes these goals determines its character, vibe and who its regulars will be, but one thing’s for sure.
Each is as unique as its reading-obsessed owner.
