We had a long weekend full of overdue rain, and it was nice to see it didn't soggy the spirits here in Kinsale! Crowds still came out for Lucky's opening Friday night, the Kinsale Market 5K Saturday morning and Triviah here on Sunday. Great to have so many of you back, and there's a lot more to look forward to now that everything is open for the season!

LUCKY'S THIS WEEKEND
Josh served up quite a lot of cheeseburgers and shrimp & crab cakes last weekend - we've been missing them! They're back on the menu for Friday night, then on Saturday there will also be Puerto Rican fare with BBQ skewers, fish cakes, rice & beans - and island drinks to match. Note the bar will not be open on Sunday this weekend, since we're all going to Tangier.
- Friday 4–9pm
- Saturday 11am–9pm
"BEEN HERE STAY HERE" SCREENING FRIDAY NIGHT
We will be showing the highly acclaimed 2024 documentary on Tangier Island this Friday at 7pm inside and 9pm outside. Everyone who is joining our club field trip to Tangier on Sunday is invited, as well as anyone else who would like to see the film (for $15/person, kids are free). It is only available at a few select theaters (in NY and LA) and cannot be streamed online, so now is your chance!
The 7pm inside screening is happening upstairs in the studio where we'll have chairs set up. At 9pm we will be projecting it outside. Weather is looking nice for a movie night by the river!
Check out the trailer here, and recent write up in the New York Times here.
TANGIER ISLAND TRIP ON SUNDAY
We have organized a trip to Tangier Island on the Chesapeake Breeze ferry for 30+ club members this Sunday. We're looking forward to exploring this one-of-a-kind place with you all. This is the first of a handful of field trips we plan to offer this summer, so stay tuned. There's still a tiny bit of room left if you're interested in joining, let me know.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
Season 5 begins on June 1st! If you were a member last year and would like to renew, you should have received an invoice by email which you can complete online or with a check made out to the Yeocomico Club. If you haven't received an invoice, please let us know.
If you're new to the club, fill out this form and we'll be in touch about joining.
JUNE 6TH: AMERICA'S 250TH EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
There are many events and activities happening around the Northern Neck as the 250th anniversary of US independence is celebrated this year, with quite a few coming up here locally on June 6th! See below for info. We'll be having a club field trip to nearby Yeocomico Church that Saturday at 3pm where Dave Butt gives a wonderful tour covering the history and preservation of the church. That will be followed by refreshments and treats. Then head to the Lucky's deck where Katy and visiting chef Olivia Wilson are throwing a Tea Party!
4TH OF JULY IN KINSALE
Every year the town comes together to host a large 4th of July celebration by the river, with food, bars, live music, games and a fabulous fireworks show from the Fire Dept. Planning for this year's event, the 250th anniversary of our independence, is underway! The Kinsale Waterfront Fund is collecting donations to help with the fireworks and festivities. Tax-deductible contributions can be made online here or with a check to the Kinsale Waterfront Fund, delivered to 285 Kinsale Road, Kinsale, VA 22488. If you'd like to be a sponsor for the event ($250 for First Mate Sponsors and $500 for Captain Sponsors) please send an email to crew@the-slips.com.
Details about the day's events can be found on The Slips website here. If you're interested in docking a boat at the marina that day or night, you can make a reservation online through that link. We'll keep you posted with all the plans for the holiday weekend!
VOLUNTEERING WITH THE KINSALE WATERFRONT FUND
In partnership with Potomac Riverkeepers and the University of Mary Washington, the Kinsale Waterfront Fund team will be monitoring our water quality this summer at The Slips. On the following Thursdays water samples will be taken from the Yeocomico and driven from Kinsale to King George, and we could use some help! Deliveries will need to be picked up in the morning and reach King George by noon. If you are available to help with driving them on any of these dates, please let us know: June 4th, June 18th, July 2nd and July 23rd. Thanks!
Cully Haldeman was the first swimmer of the season. "It's freezing!"
