TAG announces their summer schedule, with free workshops from VMFA instructors, monthly Sip and Create events, monthly KidzArt, and much more.
Sip and Create: Scandinavian-inspired Cardboard Animals
- June 26, 6:30–8:30pm at TAG
- This whimsical idea is the creation of TAG Artist and Educator, Emily Crews. Learn about Scandinavian motifs and patterns, and use cardboard to create stylized animal sculptures. This rather open ended process could have some neat results!

- Tappahannock’s monthly downtown crawl starts with wine tasting at Act XII Wine and Provisions, then an art opening at TAG - this month is the juried show Wild and Wacky featuring works submitted from all around our region - then dinner and drinks at 1710 Tavern.
TAG and Essex County Public Library present: Floral Headband Workshop
- July 17, 6:30–8pm at Essex County Public Library
- Inspired by the Frida Kahlo exhibit at VMFA to add some floral interest to your hair? Join TAG for a casual evening of crafting floral headwear at ECPL.

Sip and Create: Decorative Slate Panels with Anne Pritchett
- July 24, 6:30–8:30pm at TAG
- Join TAG member artist Anne Pritchett for a fun and low-key evening painting on slate panels. Make a welcome sign, a house number, house rules, or just a pretty piece to hang on the wall, using repurposed roofing slates. BYOB if you want to sip while you create!

TAG and Essex County Public Library present: Capture Our World: Phone Photography Skills
- July 30, 6–7pm at Essex County Public Library
- Discover how to make the most of your camera phone! In this hands-on class, we’ll explore the built-in features of modern smartphones, dive into the basics of composition, and learn simple post-production techniques to elevate your personal and travel photos. Whether you're snapping vacation memories or capturing everyday moments, this class is perfect for all skill levels — no fancy gear or experience required!

TAG and VMFA present: Silk Painting
- August 9, 9am–3pm at TAG
- Discover the French technique of serti, drawing with a liquid resist to create designs and patterns on silk scarves. Once the resist has dried and set with an iron, fabric paints are applied to complete the design. Students can expect to finish a long scarf. Textile Artist and Educator Mary Swezey has a BFA in art history from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MFA in fibers from Arizona State University. She has also studied textile techniques at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. She has taught at Virginia Commonwealth University and Longwood College as well as VMFA.
