Witchcraft mania swept through Salem long after its southern counterparts in Virginia. Join author, local historian and Emmy Award-winning screenwriter Carson Hudson who uses surviving records to discuss fascinating stories that show how the community’s belief in witchcraft affected Virginia’s social, religious and material culture from 1626 to 1730.
Oct 18-19 │ American Revolution Museum at Yorktown
Celebrate America’s momentous 1781 Revolutionary War victory at Yorktown with artillery firings, exhibits and interpretive programs examining the significance of the American and French alliance. Listen to martial music played by the Fifes and Drums of York Town and a talk by author Sean Heuvel, Ph.D., about Virginians who defended their communities in the militia.

In time for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution, join us for our new special exhibition commemorating America’s 250th through contemporary voices. Discover new perspectives on the ideals and legacies of the American Revolution through the folk art of Oscar de Mejo created during the 1976 Bicentennial and through engaging community art programs. Special tour available at noon on October 18.

In partnership with JYF, the Peninsula Historic Area Religions Together (HART) will present a panel discussion on “Worlds Transformed: Navigating Religious Difference Past and Present,” exploring the complexity of religious expression in early Virginia – African, Indigenous and English. Following the panel, attendees will discuss how to support different ways of being in our world today.
