The Board of Directors of Arts on Main is proud to announce a $350,000 challenge gift made possible through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. E. Claiborne Robins, Jr.
The Robins’ Challenge aims to inspire early lead gifts toward the final improvements of Arts on Main’s facility on Gloucester’s historic Main Street. This challenge gift serves as a catalyst as the organization prepares to launch a region-wide public campaign in spring of 2026 with an overall fundraising goal of $1.6 million.
“We are incredibly energized by this significant early investment in Arts on Main’s final capital improvements which will benefit everyone in the region,” said Marjo Holthaus, Chair of the Board of Directors. “The Robins’ Challenge and the generosity of matching donors will inspire our community to take part as we move into the public phase of this campaign.”
Mr. Robins will serve as the Honorary Chair of the Campaign.
Arts on Main is a non-profit community arts center in Gloucester, Virginia that offers galleries, classes and events to promote and provide creative outlets for people of all ages and abilities.
Arts on Main is currently in the quiet leadership phase of the campaign, engaging early major investors whose commitments will help meet—or exceed—the challenge by the deadline of January 31, 2026.
Capital projects that will be funded by the campaign are in final planning stages and include expanding the second floor of the Arts on Main building to meet program growth; installing an elevator to enhance physical access to people of all abilities; upgrading the existing kitchen; creating an arts studio for ceramics and other art mediums; replacement of the HVAC; and retiring the mortgage.
Two earlier phases of capital projects raised $840,000 to complete improved public access on the first floor; expand space for exhibits, programs, operations and storage; install new lighting systems and technology; and develop programs for older adults, teens and youth.
Now in its 14th year of providing visual, literary and performing arts programming to the community, Arts on Main continues to live out its mission “to enrich people’s lives by providing a creative environment for the arts to flourish.” Fulfilling the mission enhances the region’s cultural, economic, health and academic well-being.
