Starting on October 23 you might notice the landscape fill up with artists. Don't worry, Essex County hasn't suddenly turned into a Parisian landscape. Instead, 34 artists will arrive to capture the beauty of Tappahannock and Essex County through plein air painting, which means painting from life outdoors.
They are here to participate in TAG's annual Tidelands Plein Air Festival & Art On The Wall. For 3 days they will be setting up their easels and opening their paint boxes to fill their canvases with the gorgeous autumn colors that grace both the lush rural settings and charming town-scapes that we already know and love. If you see an artist as you are out and about, be sure to stop and say hello.
There will be a chance to meet some of the artists, and see some of their work on Friday evening at TAG's monthly Date Night opening in the TAG gallery from 5 to 7pm. This month the featured artist will be Lynn Lewis, who was the winner of the Artists' Choice Award at last year’s Art on the Wall event. Her image, “Big Blue,” of the beautiful antique blue tractor is featured on TAG’s Art on the Wall promotional materials.
This week of artistic adventure will culminate in the Art on the Wall event, from 5 to 8pm at St. Margaret's lovely Dining Pavilion, overlooking the Rappahannock River. This TAG fundraising event will treat you to cocktails, beer, wine and heavy hors d'oeuvres while offering you a chance to purchase the artwork produced during the week.
Tickets for the event are $75.00 per person and are available at TAG's gallery on Prince Street or on the website. Sponsorships are available for individuals and businesses who want to show their support for art in our community.
